It is a dream come true. Say goodbye to stubborn gray hair. Say goodbye to color stains. This inexpensive technological genius is made of light weight plastic, contoured with an ergonomic design. It was created for at-home hair colorers. You must try it.Only $5.99!Try it NOW.

#2 Clairol Ultresse. My preferred color - chestnut brown. It has a medium viscosity or thickness and yet will adhere to the hair and does not run off. The color lasts 4-6 weeks. It has a nice perfume and keeps your hair silky soft. Conditioner included in box. Prices varies $4.99 - 6.99 per box.

#3 L'Oreal Excellence Creme. In this color box is the best conditioner. I like the colorant itself but they discontinued my preferred color "mahogany brown" which was a red/brown. But the conditioner included in the box is no ordinary conditioner. It leaves your hair silky soft and smelling great. It also gives you a tube of it, which will last a whole week. Price varies $6.99 - 10.99 per box

#4 Redken Color Extend Conditioner. My personal preference for conditioner is one with a thick viscosity so that it sticks to my hair before rinsing and one that leaves my hair which is very thick and frizzy, calm, manageable and silky soft. I have been using this product for 2 months. It works great! You can find it online at Cosmeticmall.com for $11.50. It is worth every penny.

#5 EZcolour All-in-One Kit. For the beginner colorer. This is a must-have purchase. In one stylish see-through plastic tote you receive an EZcolour brush, a detail brush for hard to get spots (and can be used for a touch up wand), a timer, hair clips for parts and sectioning, a dark towel which is a must with dye that stains, and an ezcleaner tool to help you to be eco-conscious and re-use the EZcolour hair coloring brush. It sells for $19.99. New Basics EZcolour All-in-One Kit

#6 Scunci Color Wipe Outs. The company that brought us scrunchies, now is branching out. These disposable handy wipes erase the color without the use of harsh chemicals. With a lemony fresh scent, you can wipe away the color stains on your skin. I keep them in my color tools bag. It works especially well for those of us who have to soak the hairline with color. Price: $2.99 at your local CVS.

#7 Garnier Nutrisse. This color has a nice perfumy smell and colors well. It doesn't last as long as the previous brands and the amount of conditioner given is skimpy. But I prefer their dark chestnut brown to the rest of the colorant candidates.
Price varies: $4.99 - $7.99.

#8 Just for Men. 5 minutes to color. How can you beat that? It's not just for men. I use their color for touch-ups. Often cheaper than the glam brands, I can use a little, store the rest and in 5 minutes have full coverage again. Price varies from $3.99 - $6.99. Can be bought in stores.

#9 Garnier Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner for Color Treated Hair. This is similar to the conditioner provided in the color boxes. It has a sweet perfumy smell and applies nice and smooth. Creating hair that is shiny, soft, manageable and beautiful. Price varies from $2.99 - $4.99.

#10 Shen Min Advanced Formula Vitamins for Healthy Hair. The jury is still out in that I have only just begun to take these vitamins but they get on the list for being an interesting hair color prevention product. Supposedly these chinese herbal vitamins not only stimulate hair growth but also restore graying hair to its natural color. Hmmm. It is Pricey at $22.95. You can find them at Folica.com

Do you know what to give your Valentine?

For those of you who are stumped on what to get that special Kate or that dashing Dan, here are a few gift giving tips to help you navigate through Valentine times.
1. Understand that Valentine's Day gift giving is ALL about showing how much you care, not necessarily by the size of the gift(not unless we're speaking in carats) but rather in the thought. Be romantic.
2. Think of the intended recipient. Who are they what makes them tick. What makes them laugh? What brings them joy? If they like flowers, which ones specifically? What is their favorite color? Maybe they love eclairs from a local bakery. Or would rather hit a disco and dance the night away. Perhaps a nice dinner out would do. Whatever you decide, make the most of it. Even if it is pizza from Dominoes and a rented movie, create a special ambiance. Light some candles, pour some wine, cuddle up under a blanket.
3. How do you fit into the picture? Who are you to this person? Love? Friend? Admirer? Then you must choose an appropriate gift. Buying lingerie for someone you don't know, even if you hope to get to know them, is inappropriate. Buying jewelry for a friend is a bit over the top. This is not a birthday. This is a romantic holiday. Make a card.
4. Remember the oldies are still goodies. Chocolate. Flowers. Jewelry. Card. A new Car (I mean really what doesn't say I love you like a brand new Porsche with a Red Ribbon?)Seriously, don't forget the card. Even if you don't make it, even if you just sign you name to it. Any written words are more romantic than none. And if you actually have the skill of pen, please do write your feelings down. A few words can move mountains.
5. Most of all, do not grab your gift on the way to meet your Valentine. Because it shows. Take the time. This person is worth all of your effort.
Here are some e-sites that will help you along.
Imagination Jewelry Designer jewelry for that special someone.
Wishing Fish A place where shopping is a s fun as the items.
Harbor Sweets Delectable Chocolates from New England. You must try the Sweet Sloops!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy January!

It's January. The beginning of a New Year. Time to think of goals and aspirations. Where do you want to be. Who do you want to be. I am a productive person. I feel low when I am not productive or have a lack of motivation. So this year, is all about productivity. Think Rosie the Riveter. Give 100% to everything and anything that you do, whether it is volunteering at a school, or participating at an event, performing on stage, interviewing for a new position, working, exercising, or spending time with family. Make sure you make the most of the situation you are in. Release old worn baggage that wears you down, toss out your insecurities and fears, and face the world standing tall.
Here is a newsletter which follows my train of thought for 2005.
New Basics January Newsletter
Check out the sale. It doesn't mean maxing out your credit cards. It doesn't mean taking a second mortgage on your home. It does mean thinking of the ones you care about and reaching out to them in some small way. Whether it is your mailperson who hand delivers large packages to your door, or your co-worker who covers you at lunch, or the cafeteria person who makes sure you get your 2 packets of sweet-n-low, your mother, your father, sister or brother, the guy down the hall that picks up your mail when you are on vacation. It is all of those people that make a difference in our lives.

So take a moment. Turn off your phone, pda, ipod. Take a moment to stop and say, hey I was thinking of you and got you a little something to celebrate the holidays. Most of all, be kind. smile. and enjoy this holiday season.

To all of my readers,

Wishing you good health, happiness and prosperity in the New Year.

Here are 5 of my favorite sites this holiday.

1. Chococho A designer site for the young and bold and beautiful. In fact I think for many years she was done before Halloween. It always psyched me out. For I am a last minute shopper. I don't have time to think so far ahead. I need to make my list. Then think about price. Then think about where to go shopping and, really, who wants to do any of that in the summer?

I appreciate starting early. Get organized. Don't wait til you're one of many in a hothouse mall. Right? Right! So here's a list - a little early, to help you with your holiday shopping. Pink Ribbons that is. It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each of us has been touched by this horrible disease. A disease that takes the lives of so many women. Each year, more money is raised to find a cure, to help victims, to create awareness, to fund testing, to gain peace in so many lives.

I lost my mother to breast cancer 16 years ago. I had no idea when she was diagnosed that I would lose her only one year later. It was tragically devastating. She was a strong and vibrant woman, who loved people, who worked hard, who cared deeply about family and friends. When she left this world , she left a void in so many lives. She died in September. She loved autumn leaves and the coolness of the air. This time of year I think of her more often and wish she were here to share in my life.

There are many organizations doing great work to find a cure, to beat the disease and support the victims, survivors and their families. Please take a moment to link into some of these organizations and see what they are doing. Purchase from the companies that are supporting them, and most of all, give of yourself, to support the cause. And for a lot of us, who have been touched by breast cancer, it is a painful reminder of things lost. At the same time it is all about 2nd chances and life renewed. My mother died of breast cancer 15 years ago. At that time, even though she was accepted into clinical trials, there was not a lot of choice and little hope. She chose to forgo the mastectomy, according to her doctors the tumor was hidden behind her breast plate anyway. She underwent many months of harsh, radiation, chemotherapy, heat, and radio frequency treatments, most of them just poking sticks in the dark. In the end she lived one year from her diagnosis and left a family in shock.
That's the angry 20 year-old who was left behind, talking. The older and wiser version sees the benefit in trials and research and knows that the doctors who treated my mother were trying their best with the tools that they had.
That's why it is so important for those of us affected to not forget, to give our support to those organizations and companies who support Breast Cancer Awareness.

Here are some e-tailers who are contributing to the cause.

Red Envelope - Think Pink
New Basics - Just Pink It

Live Free or Die

Live Sexy

The New Hampshire motto rings clearer for me these days. Live Free says to me... Live life to the fullest. Live without boundaries. Breakdown the walls. Live without suppression. Live without inhibition. I am a person who lives with boundaries. I create them and build them up and live inside them unitl I start feeling claustrophic and then I break them down. Only to build them up again in different forms. Why? I am made that way. I like systems though I rebel against them. I feel most comfortable with a routine and knowledge of where I am going and what I am doing here.

What does this have to do with shopping? Well, I will tell you. Shopping to me is a freeing experience. You gain and lose control of your life and surroundings. You redefine yourself and often breakfree of the constraints of the everyday. You build your castle and then you break it down and rebuild it. Trade has always been apart of human existence. It is a natural way of being for most women. Just think of the ideology of hunters and gatherers. Hunter were men. Nomadic, independent, physical. Gatherers were the women. Domestic, acquirers, nurturers.

There. See. Made ya think.

Water - Drink it up

Water Water everywhere and not a drop to drink.

Water is one of the three key elements to living. In an episode of CSI Grissom states that a person can last 3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.

If you had asked my mother in the 1960's whether she thought it were possible that we would be paying $1.60 for a 16 oz bottle of water. She would have laughed and laughed. Now in 2004 there are so many different types of "spring" "filtered" "flavored" water.

My personal favorite is Evian as I have stated before. Though I also drink Dasani, Poland Springs, and Belmont Springs.

Happy Birthday to my best friend Tiz

Happy Birthday!

My dearest friend, Tizzie Lemon,is having birthday.
Happy Birthday Girl!
I was searching the web for a gift for this special lady and found several sites that have muy interesting items for young women like ourselves. Shampoos that lift, balance, de-frizz, thicken, control, enliven, shine, and de-tox. Conditioner with deep-heat, cool control, oil, and water. I have tried gels, and creams, and sticks, and wax. I have tried products like Dippity Do that cost $1.99 for a huge jar and lasts forever and works like starch. I have tried $26.00 Fresh Hair Control Cream, that smells de-lovely but doesn't do de-squatty. Why do I keep purchasing all of these products because I am in search of the hair holy grail. There is no need to fear the hair coloring unknown. Face the mirror. Look deep into your eyes. You know you want a change. You know you want a new you....And what does that entail? A piercing? A tattoo? Monogram ensemble? NO. Color and re-shape your hair. It is the quickest, most dramatic, without being life altering, way to a new beautiful YOU. Here's what you do.

LOOK at the beauty magazines. Pull out pages of hairdos you like and think what would look good on you. Then go to your trusted salon person and consult with them. If you don't go to a "salon". I would walk the expensive department store in your area and when you see a salesperson with a nice do, ask them where they get their hair done.

IMAGINE yourself with new color tresses and dream about the gates of opportunity opening up in front of you. Your color choice dear friends is most important to the success of this venture. Once you have decided on a color and tone suitable for your face, then approach with confidence the hair color aisle of a chosen drugstore or supermarket. Purchase a brand - any brand.

Realize the ease of this process by purchasing the EZcolour Hair Coloring Brush from New Basics. This gadget will make your coloring life easier. There is no need to for the days gone by coloring tragedies. You need not cover your bathroom tile with newspaper. This little hair coloring wizard will help you to quickly, easily, brush in your chosen , store bought color. And in 10 - 40 minutes ( depending on how long the color must sit) VOILA (ta-da) you are a new beautiful YOU!

If you have tried IGIA's Brush-n-Color or what I like to call, Brush-n-splatter, and have been turned off by new hair coloring applicator products, I don't blame you. That IGIA product is a STINKER. If you have it and haven't used it try to return it ( if you can) or jsut throw it away. It's not worth the trouble.

Don't be diswayed by a bad product. I highly recommend that you try this New Basics Product. First and foremost the product works. I just bought my 3rd one - which I do wash out and re-use even though it is a "disposable". Since I color my hair every 3.5 weeks, and I am a sincere spaz, I must try to be economical. I have found it takes me 5 minutes to brush it in. For med/long hair that's great!! Secondly the company really stands by the product which says a huge amount, and they have great customer service, which is also rare these days. If anyone can hear me, you have got to try this product!

The new trend in jewelry - FLOWER PENDANTS

The fashion right now for Accessories is big and chunky. EZcolour. It is easy. I mean EZ. You mix your color , put it in the brush, squeeze it out and brush it in. I have to color my hair every 4 weeks. I normally get color flicks everywhere, it is a true hair coloring mess, but with this brush I get great coverage and no destruction in my bathroom. I have used Clairol, L'Oreal, Herbal Essence, NiceNEasy, Roots (English brand) and it works with all. The handle is sized small enough for dainty hands and yet large enough to fully load 4 oz of fluid.

It is only $5.99. Really, what are you waiting for?

Consumer World

CONSUMER WORLD

This site though fairly small and a little long to scroll thru, links to great savings. For those of you bargain hunters who will scour Marshalls and TJMaxx for that Hermes purse hiding in the clearance aisle , you will adore this discount shopping site. She says no, this is no ordinary towel.
And...it isn't. It is a little pricey. I have found it for $19.00, but then there's shipping , so look for companies with free shipping. It IS super absorbent and incredibly light and thin. A bit "not of this world", it is not your ordinary cotton towel. It's great for travelling or going to the gym, since it is small and light weight you can roll it up and take it anywhere. Great for boaters. Swimmers. Hikers. An "at-home" hair coloring applicator. $5.99. I have tried the L'oreal Comb top, the Igia ColornGO, and none of them compare to this product. It is EASY to use. Buy your favorite color or the one on sale closest to your favorite color, mix it up, fill the bottle base, pump out the color. You have to squeeze the bottle to get the color out, but it doesn't drip or flick or ooze. Very cool.
I have straight, med length hair and it did a great job of getting the roots, and at the same time I colored all the way to the ends...without pulling out my hair or getting it on my clothes. Amazing. I am hooked for life.

Red Envelope

Here is a catalog/e-tailer that has beautiful things for sale displayed in a beautiful way.
